Start Apple Maps
Apple Maps was introduced by Apple in 2012 as an alternative to Google Maps. Apple wanted to be less dependent on Google with its own maps service, which worked better with the other proprietary features on iPhone and iPad. In 2013 Apple Maps also became available as a standard app on the Mac and has been available on the Apple smartwatch since the arrival of the Apple Watch.
Apple Maps uses its own map material, supplemented with maps from TomTom, OpenStreetMap and Waze. For a number of years, Apple has been driving around various countries (in May/June 2021 also in the Netherlands). Together with iCulture readers, we mapped the locations of the Apple Maps cars.
The app can save part of the map material offline, so you can also find your way without an internet connection. You’ll need to download a map of the area first.
